Organization and Structure of the Indiana Youth Services Association

Membership

Heads of Youth Service Bureaus form the membership of IYSA.

  • YSB Directors are hired by and responsible to their local Boards of Directors.
  • Membership meets quarterly.
  • Annual General Meeting is held in December.
  • The membership elects the Board of Directors of the State Association

Board of Directors

  • Eight current Youth Service Bureau Directors (members) and sixteen Directors at Large make up the Board. (See By-Laws)
  • The Board elects its own officers, including President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.
  • The IYSA Executive Director is a member of the board and the Executive Committee ex officio.
  • The President names an Executive Committee.
  • Directors are elected to three-year terms.

Committees

  • Both Board members and YSB Directors who are not on the Board serve on IYSA Committees
  • Appointment to committees is made by the Board President, in consultation with the Executive Director
  • Chairs of committees are appointed by the Board President
  • Meetings are normally held quarterly but a committee’s schedule is determined by its responsibilities and roles

Standing Committees are:

  • Finance Committee, headed by the Board Treasurer
  • Membership Committee
  • Program Committee
  • Board Development Committee
  • Communications Committee
  • Advocacy Committee
  • Personnel Committee
  • Reaccredidation Committee

Staffing

  • The Executive Director of IYSA is hired by and reports to the Board of Directors and assigns reporting relationships and responsibilities of all other state office staff.
  • At the beginning of 2000, IYSA staff includes an Executive Director, a Program Manager, a Youth Voice Director and Assistant Director, an Administrative Assistant, and a Technology Coordinator.
  • Two Masters of Social Work degree candidates hold internships with the Association in 1999-2000.
