In their local communities, Youth Service Bureau’s offer a
variety of programs based on the following four core roles:

Delinquency Prevention - programs aimed at preventing delinquent behavior
by providing positive alternatives for keeping youth out of the justice system

Advocacy - activities that support, represent and protect the children and youth

Community Education - services that educate and raise communities’
awareness about issues central to healthy youth development

Information and Referral - the sharing of information on and referral to a
variety of youth serving agencies
Programs based on these core roles can include (but are not limited to):
- Counseling (individual and family)
- School based programming (alternatives to detention and expulsion)
- Teen Court & Restorative Justice
- Academic skills enhancement (i.e. Tutoring & Homework Assistance)

Crisis and Basic Needs - (Safe Place,
emergency shelter, phone crisis lines, food and clothing pantries)
- Mentoring - typically after-school site based programs
- Family support and parenting - adult and teen parenting skills courses, supervised visitation
- Alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention programs
- Truancy programs
- Residential care - long and short-term

Advocacy - CASA (court appointed special advocates), work with state and local
legislators on policies affecting youth and families
